It takes a bit of honesty

Today we updated our home page… go and have a look !! …. www.friendlyweb.co.nz

3 weeks ago we launched our new website, we optimised the site, we were still coming in first and second position for the terms we wanted on google and we thought “yup we have got this, our website is going to be great” .

I asked everybody “what do you think ? “…

I got great responses  back…  “Yeah Karl it looks great…. I think it’s good… it looks really nice going to be an awesome site… etc. ”

…1 week later…… No enquiries … I start to ponder “hmmm why no enquiries?” … “It must be because it’s a new site, we have changed the content, done all the things you’re supposed to and Google must not have found it yet” …

2 Weeks pass now, I was starting to get worried, start to think things like… maybe we over optimised our site…

3 weeks pass
and still no enquiries… now I’m just plain confused… and annoyed. We as a team have put in all this hard work, wrote the correct content, ran it through every test we can think off and we are still not getting anywhere…

So I start to ask for some more honest feedback from people, that I know and trust… and I get the same response from everybody “yea that looks good, great site, nice work, keep up the good work etc. ”

Well that was until I asked somebody by the name of Tarquin. He works at VPS City, our web host provider.  He actually gave me some real feedback, this and some other things is what led to our revamp… He gave me some ideas, concepts, and reasons for those concepts… not just “Yeah great site” he gave me some honesty - Thank you Tarquin.

When building a website honesty to me is extremely important, it helps me understand what people want to see, it gives me true feedback.

I am sorry to inform you of this but nobody is perfect... and I know this hard to comprehend... even me… we all need feedback so that we can improve things if we don't get it then we can’t improve....

So next time someone asks you for an honest opinion, tell them… If you think it may hurt them, it may to start off with but it also like it did with me ... it may motivate them....

Why not give us some honest feedback about our new home page below. We would love to hear it…

Very impressive Karl, go get em boy!!
